Babatunde Bakare (BB): Ede’s Compassionate Leader in the Making
Leadership is not built overnight; it is formed through experience, discipline, sacrifice, and service. Bakare’s journey from Osogbo to the international stage, and back to community-focused service in Osun, reveals a man prepared by life to contribute meaningfully to society. Born into the respected family of Mr. and Mrs. Fatai Bakare, he learned early that humility and perseverance are essential qualities for anyone who desires to make a difference.
His connection to Ile Agbopa in Ede South Local Government has remained central to his identity. Even after schooling and working abroad, he has never forgotten his roots. This attachment to home is important because true leaders are those who remember where they come from and remain committed to lifting their people. For Bakare, Ede is not just a place of origin; it is a community whose progress matters deeply to him.
Educationally, BB has built a strong foundation. He attended St. Clare’s Catholic Nursery and Primary School in Osogbo before continuing his secondary education at Our Lady and Saint Francis Catholic College and Unity School, Ejigbo. His pursuit of higher education later took him to the United Kingdom, where he attended Havering College and the University of Portsmouth, earning a degree in Environmental Science.
Professionally, he has gathered experience that many aspiring leaders would benefit from. As a former Chemistry teacher, he understood the value of mentoring young minds. As an environmental engineer and project manager, he developed practical knowledge in groundwater treatment, road construction, contaminated land remediation, soil stabilisation, and sustainable development. His work across countries such as Ireland, Germany, Italy, Spain, France, Scotland, and Wales gave him a wider worldview.
Beyond career achievements, BB has shown that leadership must be people-centred. His donations of food items and other valuables to his ward in Ede and to Accord members in Osun demonstrate his willingness to support people directly. At a time when many families face economic hardship, such assistance brings relief, hope, and a reminder that compassionate individuals still exist in society.
His weekly sponsorship of a radio programme on Redio Gbajumo, anchored by Amb. Olaide Alafe, further reflects his commitment to public engagement. By supporting a platform that promotes the Imole administration, he helps to bridge the gap between government and the people. Such communication is necessary in a democratic society where citizens need information, explanation, and access to conversations about governance.
BB is a man whose life combines education, international exposure, professional excellence, philanthropy, and loyalty to his community. These qualities make him a potential leader society can look up to. He represents a new kind of leadership; one that listens, gives, builds, educates, and understands that the true measure of greatness is service to humanity
