In a significant political shift in Osun State, at the early hours of Wednesday, 25th of March, the Accord Party recorded a major boost as over five hundred members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Iree, Boripe Local Government officially defected to the party in support of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election bid. The defection event took place at the Osun State Accord Party Secretariat in Ogooluwa, Osogbo, amid high enthusiasm and strengthened political momentum.
The defectors were led by prominent grassroots leaders, including Hon. Akinpelu Kehinde; former APC Ward 10 Chairman, Iree, Hon. Oyedeji Sunday (Evang), a local executive member and Ward 10 leader, alongside other key stakeholders such as Akeem Olaniyi (Assistant Secretary), Mr. Faleye M., Mr. Osinwole Ibrahim, Mr. Ayinde Jimoh, Mr. Ganiyu Afolabi, Mr. Afolabi Kehinde, Mr. Oguwole Isiaka (Ex-Officio), Mrs. Bolanle Salami (Women Secretary), Mrs. Yemisi Idowu, Mr. Bakare Salami, Mrs. Oyelami Mariam, and several others.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors shortly after their reception into the Accord Party by the Osun State Chairman, Pastor Victor Akande, Hon. Akinpelu Kehinde criticized the APC, describing it as a party that “enslaves its members, imposes candidates, and lacks fairness, equity, and transparency.”
He further accused certain leaders within the party in Iree of arrogance, self-centeredness, and excessive talk without electoral value, noting that such tendencies have alienated loyal members and weakened the party’s grassroots structure.
Hon. Kehinde, however, expressed deep appreciation for the leadership of Governor Ademola Adeleke, commending what he described as “uncommon transformation across all sectors in Osun State.” According to him, the Governor’s performance and people-oriented governance played a decisive role in their defection.
“We have seen the light, and we are proud to join the Accord family in Osun State,” he stated. “The achievements of Mr. Governor has convinced us that he deserves a second term in office.”
He also acknowledged the support and encouragement of the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Alhaji Kazeem Akinleye, for motivating them and assuring them of inclusiveness within the Accord Party. Appreciation was equally extended to the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, for his warm reception and support.
In a bold political declaration, Hon. Kehinde asserted that the APC has lost its footing in Boripe Local Government, adding that more defections are imminent.
“As a former leading figure in the APC, we have begun consultations with our associates across other local governments. Many have expressed readiness to join us. Before the end of May, the APC will be completely buried in Boripe and beyond,” he said.
He concluded with strong optimism about the forthcoming election, affirming:
“The victory of Governor Ademola Adeleke is sacrosanct. Come August 15, the Accord Party will be declared victorious.”
