Why Osun Needs Governor Ademola Adeleke for a Second Term - Olusola Ajala

As the political atmosphere gradually heats up ahead of another governorship election in Osun State on August 15, 2026, conversations around the performance and future of Governor Ademola Adeleke have become more intense.

While critics continue to question aspects of his leadership style, many residents and political observers argue that the governor deserves a second term based on continuity, infrastructure renewal, workers’ welfare, and growing public confidence in governance.

When Senator Ademola Adeleke assumed office in November 2022, the administration inherited a state struggling with salary arrears, pension liabilities, abandoned projects, and infrastructural deficits.

Within a relatively short period, his government moved aggressively to clear outstanding salary and pension obligations while also reviving stalled road projects across several communities in the state.

One of the strongest arguments in favour of a second term is continuity of development. Across Osogbo, Ede, Ilesa, Ikirun,Ila,Ile Ife and Iwo, multiple road rehabilitation and construction projects have either been completed or are ongoing under the current administration.

The government has also invested heavily in healthcare through the renovation of over 200 primary healthcare centres and the expansion of health insurance coverage for residents.

Supporters further point to the administration’s economic interventions. Through cooperative loans, youth empowerment schemes, and support for farmers, thousands of small business owners and rural dwellers have reportedly benefited from state-backed financial assistance. The government has also increased internally-generated revenue significantly, while reducing portions of the state’s debt burden.

Politically, Adeleke’s populist style has helped him maintain strong grassroots appeal.

Despite criticism over his public personality and social media presence, many residents see him as accessible and people-oriented. Public sentiment across several online discussions also reflects a belief among supporters that his administration has delivered more visible projects than expected.

However, even as the opposition continues to grumble and debate over a second term, thousands already attest to the need for it across the state. They see the ratification of a renewed mandate as therefore sine qua non for continuity.

For many supporters, the argument is simple: projects already started should be completed, reforms should be consolidated, and the momentum of development should not be interrupted midway.

A fresh 4-year mandate is therefore not only needed, it is expedient.
