Osun 2026: I’m Not Running for Governorship – Omisore Breaks Silence

Former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and ex-Deputy Governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has finally put to rest speculations surrounding his potential interest in the 2026 governorship race.

Speaking during a live appearance on Politics Today, a political affairs programme aired on Channels Television, the former lawmaker categorically denied plans to contest the governorship seat in Osun.

“I am not convinced to run,” Omisore stated firmly, stressing that contrary to widespread rumours, he has not declared any intention to join the race. He added that while he remains committed to the growth and development of Osun State and the nation at large, his current political focus does not include seeking elective office in the forthcoming election.

Political observers suggest that Senator Omisore’s decision to opt out of the 2026 Osun governorship race may not be unconnected with the circumstances surrounding his abrupt exit as the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Some believe that Omisore may be backing out of the race due to the overwhelming popularity and growing political capital of the incumbent governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke. Governor Adeleke, who secured a resounding victory in the 2022 gubernatorial election, has continued to enjoy strong grassroots support across the state.

“There’s a political reality Omisore must have considered,” said a source within the Osun APC. “Adeleke is not only firmly in control of the state's political machinery, but he also commands the love of the masses. Going up against that kind of momentum requires more than ambition, it demands a realistic chance of success.”

The source further noted that any attempt to challenge Adeleke in the current climate could prove politically suicidal, especially for a candidate still nursing the bruises of internal party rejection.
