Governor Adeleke Charges Government Drivers on Defensive Driving, Commends Their Vital Role in Governance

The Staff Development Centre, Abere, came alive on Tuesday, 10th June 2025, as government drivers across Osun State gathered for a two-day workshop and seminar on road safety. The event, organized by Peace and Unity Safety Services under the chairmanship of Mr. Sunday Oluwaremilekun Oyedokun (Ona-Arinye), in conjunction with Osun State Government.

Governor Ademola Adeleke, represented by the Special Assistant on Media and Community Communications, Hon. Blessing Adegbite, officially declared the event open. In his keynote address, the Governor commended the organizers for their foresight and dedication to promoting safer roads and responsible driving among state drivers.

“This retreat is not just a gathering — it is a reaffirmation of our collective commitment to the safety of lives and property in Osun State,” Governor Adeleke stated. He emphasized that government drivers play a vital role in the day-to-day functionality of the government, and their professionalism and safety consciousness directly impact the well-being of citizens and officials alike.

Governor Adeleke also highlighted strides made under his administration in road infrastructure and safety. “We have prioritized the rehabilitation of rural and major roads, installed solar-powered street lights, and improved road safety measures across the state. These efforts are part of a broader agenda to modernize transportation and enhance the safety of all road users,” he said.

He encouraged the drivers to take the training seriously, reinforcing that their adherence to road ethics and defensive driving techniques enhances the government’s image and operations. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting all sectors, including transport and safety services, under the pillars of security, development, and effective service delivery.

In his welcome address, Mr. Oyedokun Sunday Oluwaremilekun stressed the importance of minimizing road traffic accidents through education and awareness. He praised the Governor’s leadership and expressed gratitude to the state Government for sponsoring the seminar and he encouraged the state government to make the seminar continous and extended to the commercial drivers in the state for orientation on road safety-focused. “Making the roads safer is a collective responsibility,” he concluded.

The Chairman of the Osun State Government Drivers Association lauded the initiative and urged his colleagues to take full advantage of the training. He used the platform to request the payment of non-accident bonuses and inclusion in government-sponsored pilgrimages, emphasizing these as incentives for dedication and professionalism. On behalf of the entire association, he reaffirmed their endorsement of Governor Ademola Adeleke for a second term in office.

Mr. Fadele Oluwagbemiga, Permanent Secretary of the Bureau of Human Resources and Capacity Building, commended both the organizers and participants, urging drivers to always obey road safety regulations. Officer Ogunmola Samson, Director of Osun State Traffic Wardens, emphasized the importance of a monitoring mechanism for ongoing road projects to prevent sabotage.

Also present at the event were Chief VIO Mr. Isa Waheed Lawal (represented by Mr. Oyebode Taiwo), Mr. Jimoh Olamide, Director of Administration and Automation, Security officials other top officials from Ona Arinye Peace and Unity Safety Services.

The seminar stands as a pivotal step toward fostering safer driving habits and reinforcing the critical role of government drivers in public service delivery and governance.
