Osun Councils: We Lied to Raise Morale of our Members, APC Elders were Told at Iragbiji

More facts have emerged from the meeting of Osun APC Elders Caucus held at the Iragbiji residence of former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola. Insiders at the meeting revealed that leaders were told why the party had to stick to its narrative on the appeal court ruling even when there is no evidence to back it up.

At the closed door meeting, party chiefs had asked questions about the truth of the party's claim and the tension the issue is generating. A party chief who is a lawyer was reported to have told the meeting that the Akure judgement did not reinstate the sacked council chairmen and caution against likely negative consequences of sticking to false narratives.

“He told the meeting that the entire judgement has nothing to back up the claim of the party. He actually called our attention to serious consequences on the party and even on the person of the party leader, Mr Oyetola. He went further to analyse the issues.

“It was at that point that one of our leaders took the microphone to explain the strategy behind the party position. He was very blunt and direct. In his words, the whole show was a mind game.

“We are doing all these to raise the hope of our party men and women. We noticed the party was almost dead and we needed something to wake the spirit of our supporters. That is why we promote this narration.

“We know we cannot forcefully take over the councils. We know the legal process. But we have succeeded in waking up our members. We have put fears into the ruling party. We have given them sleepless nights. So we lied for political reasons.

“And we must keep it up. We must move ahead with our narrative. By that we keep our party alive and kicking”, the party chief was quoted as saying at the meeting.

After the briefing by the said leader, our reporter was told that a party chief urged the leaders to handle the matter with care so that it won't backfire.

“He cautioned us. He specifically asked what the leaders would do if and when members found out that they were lied to.”, our source reported.

The meeting later resolved to uphold the narration but with a caution on leaders to embark on confidential briefing for local party leaders.

“Simply, we were told to go and continue to lie to our people”, the source said.
