GOVERNOR ADELEKE FLAGS OFF 84KM UPGRADING AND BACKLOG MAINTENANCE OF RURAL ROAD CONSTRUCTION IN OSUN STATE

His Excellency, Senator (Dr.) Asiwaju Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, the Executive Governor of Osun State, today inaugurated the groundbreaking ceremony for the upgrading and backlog maintenance of 84 kilometers of rural roads under the first phase of the Osun Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP).

The ceremony, held at Methodist High School, Aagba, marks a significant milestone in the administration’s commitment to enhancing rural infrastructure and supporting agricultural development. Governor Adeleke emphasized the administration's dedication to improving food security and reducing poverty, particularly in Osun’s rural communities where access roads are often lacking.

Governor Adeleke, who was represented by the Secretary to the Osun State Government, Hon. Teslim Igbalaye highlighted that the state’s agrarian nature necessitates improved road infrastructure to connect farmers to markets, thereby boosting both the economy and social development. The 84 kilometers of roadworks, funded in partnership with the World Bank, are part of a broader initiative to construct 240 kilometers of rural roads across the state.

"This administration is fully committed to ensuring food security and reduction of poverty especially in the rural communities where it is predominant. One of the major vehicle to achieving food sufficiency, is the provision of ‘‘Access roads’’ to rural communities."

The Governor underscored the government's efforts to support rural farmers, citing recent initiatives such as the procurement of 31 tractors for farming activities across the state's local governments. He also reaffirmed the administration's commitment to the RAAMP project, noting recent legislative achievements including the passage of bills on the Rural Access Road Agency (RARA) and the State Road Fund (SRF).

"Recently, the State Government procured thirty -One (31) numbers of tractors for farming activities across the thirty Local Governments areas in the State, and now the flag -off of the  Constructing and  rehabilitating  of rural roads in Osun State, to support farming activities is a right step in a right direction."

"Let me re-emphasis that the State Government will not relent in supporting the Project to achieving her developmental objectives. Some of the successes recorded on the project in recent times is the passage into law of the two bills (bills on Rural Access Road Agency (RARA) and State Road Fund (SRF)) presented by the Project which had also got the Governor’s Accent."

These legislative measures are expected to enhance the sustainability of rural road projects and improve socio-economic conditions.

He assured that the state government has allocated over Nine Hundred Million Naira (N900M) to the RAAMP since its inception and pledged continued support for the project's objectives, reiterating the administration’s dedication to fostering development and enhancing the quality of life for the people of Osun State.
