OSSIEC Fixes Nomination Fees; Releases 2025 Local Government Elections Guidelines; as APC, LP, NNPP, PDP, 14 Other Political Parties Submit Dates for Primaries


Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) has finally released Election Guidelines for the February, 2025 Local Government Elections in Osun State. The Guidelines dated 22nd July, 2024 which contains key information and guiding procedures is now available for political parties candidates and all stakeholders in the electoral process. This is coming at the heels of top arrangements by political parties (18 in all) showing interest to participate at the elections by submitting dates for their primary elections.
Some of the highlights of the Guidelines are as follows:
The guidelines for qualification for chairmanship and councillorship seats
Procedures for nomination of candidates and conduct of primary elections by the political parties
Nomination fee payable to the Commission by chairmanship candidate is #500,000.00 while that of councillorship candidate is #250,000.00 non-refundable
Documents to accompany a candidate’s nomination form shall include; a tax clearance certificate issued in the last 2-3 years in the personal name of the candidate
Choice of chairmanship and vice chairmanship candidate by a political party in any Local Government shall reflect the peculiarities, history, custom and geographical spread of the Local Government
Withdrawal and replacement of candidate shall be subscribed by both the state chairman and secretary of the political party affected and shall be before final publication of names by the Commission except in the case of death (if any) of a candidate which may be at any time before or during the election
An aspirant who is a political appointee at any level must resign the appointment before the date of primary election
Procedure for voting requires a voter to possess a valid Permanent Voters Card (PVC) issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)
Procedure for collation and declaration of results
Election tribunal procedure and election appeal tribunal procedure.

FHA ED, Remi Omowaiye in Trouble over N150m MIST Fund Fraud

Former Commissioner for Works and the current Executive Director at the Federal Housing Authority, Remi Omowaiye is in fresh trouble over an alleged N150m MIST fund fraud when he served as the maiden Commissioner for the Ministry of Science and Innovation under the Aregbesola administration. Feelers from the state government indicated that shocking details were uncovered on the FHA director during a contract review process on which he was already penciled down over a particular road contract. A source told our reporter that the money was meant for some information and communication gadgets to be shipped to Nigeria. Till date, there was no invoice nor any equipment from the transaction. IGP Egbetokun Conniving with Oyetola and Osun APC to assassinate Adeleke, PDP alleges

The leadership of the Osun State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has accused the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun of hobnobbing with the opposition All Progressives Congress to assassinate the state governor, Ademola Adeleke amid the crisis surrounding control of local government areas in the state. Addresing a press conference at the PDP secretariat in Osogbo, the party chairman, Sunday Bisi, alleged that Egbetokun gave sacked local government chairmen under the platform of APC security cover to take control of councils, saying the development was part of the plot to “get rid” of Governor Adeleke.
