Football Legend, Maradona Dies at 60

 Football legend Diego Maradona, one of the greatest players of all time, has died at the age of 60. The former Argentina attacking midfielder and manager suffered a heart attack. He had successful surgery on a brain blood clot earlier in November and was to be treated for alcohol dependency. Maradona was captain when Argentina won the 1986 World Cup, producing a series of sublime individual performances to lead his team to glory. In a statement on Twitter, the Argentine Football Association expressed “its deepest sorrow for the death of our legend”, adding: “You will always be in our hearts.” Maradona played for Barcelona and Napoli during his club career, winning two Serie A titles with the Italian side. Oyinlola to Aregbesola: Shift propose visit to Osun

The Peoples Democratic Party on Tuesday warned ex-governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, to stay away from the state to prevent the breakdown of the law and order. A statement by the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the party, Prince Diran Odeyemi, obtained by newsmen in Osogbo, also called on security operatives to pay attention to the planned visit by Aregbesola purportedly to mark 10 years of the return of progressives’ administration in the state. SENATE APPROVES BUHARI’S REQUEST TO REFUND OSUN, FOUR OTHERS’ N148BN

On Tuesday, the Senate approved a proposal by President Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) to reimburse N148,141,969,161.24 to the state governments of Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River, Osun and Ondo for projects undertaken on behalf of the federal government. The approval follows the consideration of a report by Senator Clifford Ordia (PDP-Edo Central), chaired by the Committee on Local and Foreign Debts. Ordia in his presentation stated that most of the Federal highways in the beneficiary states where said projects were executed “were at a deplorable state before the intervention of the state governments.” According to him the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing carried out a series of visits on all federal roads constructed by the States and concluded that the quality of the work performed met the required level.’ The lawmaker however noted that states like Cross River, Rivers, Bayelsa and Ondo States embarked on the highway projects execution as far back as 2005 till date. The National Universities Commission has transferred ownership of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology LAUTECH Ogbomoso to the Oyo State Government while the Osun state Government is to take over the College of Health Sciences in Osogbo. The resolution followed the lingering ownership of LAUTECH over the years. The Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission Professor Abubakar Rasheed stated this at a media briefing in Abuja. Professor Rasheed said both Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Adegboyega Oyetola signed a memorandum of Agreement to the development. Senate President Ahmad Lawan warned that if the Senate were abolished as criticized by some Nigerians, there might be chaos. Lawan announced this on Friday, while announcing an open retreat for senior management of the National Assembly and the National Assembly Service Commission in Abuja. President Muhammadu Buhari has received the report of the Justice Ayo Salami-led probe panel on alleged corruption charges against suspended Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magi, at the State House, Abuja. In a ceremony in the Executive Council Chambers of the State House, the panel, led by Justice Salami, would be handing boxes of documents, believed to be volumes of the report to the President. The panel was inaugurated by President Muhammadu Buhari in July and given 45 days to carry out the assignment but the time frame was extended further after the panel requested more time. Gbajabiamila’s security aide allegedly shoots newspapers vendor

A security aide to the Speaker, House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has allegedly shot a newspapers vendor in the head. The incident, which occurred at the Federal Secretariat, Abuja, around 3 pm on Thursday, caused panic in the area. The victim identified as Ifeanyi Okereke was subsequently rushed to the National Hospital by his brother and some police officers, where he reportedly died. Our correspondent learnt that the shooting incident happened when Okereke and other street vendors selling on the Shehu Shagari Way, Three Arms Zone, flocked around the convoy of the speaker who was said to be in the habit of giving out money anytime he passed them. Lawmaker representing Benue South, Abba Patrick Moro, has called on the Ministry of Health for swift intervention as a ‘strange disease’ kills 17 people in Ankpa community, with several others currently receiving treatment in the hospitals.
